Michelle Obama: what a woman!
It is true that often the most driven people are the ones who have faced so much adversity, and Michelle Obama is a real example of that. After reading her book, “Becoming”, I can say with no hesitation that she holds my highest regards and a new level of admiration I never thought possible.
First, as a black woman, she’s worked her entire life at dismantling stereotypes, and unapologetically so. She then went on to bring an extra focus on the narrative that girls can do anything they set their mind to as a central component of her mission as First Lady, thus creating amazing programs for which she played a pivotal role with a hands-on approach to communities around the world. The way she used her role/title as First Lady and worked tirelessly for change and to create better opportunities for all is truly admirable.
To this whole thing must be added the fact that she, on top of experiencing inequality based on her gender all throughout her career as a lawyer, had to evolve in contexts where she was also discriminated because of her race and she carried it out with brava is just plain amazing!!!
Please take my advice: read her book. In it, she speaks honestly about her views on politics in general, gives astute observations about the USA as a country and takes us on a journey within her passionate fight to eradicate injustice. “Becoming” also offers an insight into her early life on the South Side of Chicago, her evolution as a young lawyer advocating for change and takes us through all 8 years of Barack Obama’s presidency, resulting in a shocking and saddening transition to what could seem to be a going backwards for our country…
“Let’s invite one another in. Maybe we can begin to fear less, to make fewer wrong assumptions, to let go of the biases and stereotypes that unnecessarily divide us. Maybe we can better embrace the ways we are the same.” Unite and conquer. Such truth and power in those words! Michelle Obama: what a woman…
